Hour Urine Collection Instructions
If you are required to collect a 24 Hour Urine,
you will be provided with instructions and the appropriate container for
your test(s). 24 Hour Urine containers should be placed in the
refrigerator during the collection period. Please ensure your name is on
the urine container. If your name is not on the container, please write
your name on the container.
There are certain urine tests which require the lab to draw a blood
sample. When dropping off the urine container, check with the staff to
see if you need a blood sample drawn.
Collection of the Specimen
The morning before you want to bring the 24 hour urine sample to the
lab, follow the instructions listed below:

When you arise in the
morning and empty your bladder. DO NOT COLLECT THIS SPECIMEN !!!!

Ensure that your name is
on the container. If not, please write your name on the container.

Write the date and time
(on the container) of the FIRST time you emptied your bladder into
the container.

Collect your urine, day
and night, for the next 24 hours.

Before bringing back the
urine container to the lab, write the date and time (on the
container) of the LAST time you emptied your bladder.
Helpful Hints

Keep the urine container
in the refrigerator.

You must collect the
urine over a 24 hour period, or your specimen will need to be
recollected.

Please bring your test
order form with you when you drop off your specimen in the lab.

Some 24 hour urine tests
require a blood sample to be drawn. Please check with the staff in
the lab when you drop off your specimen to see if you need a sample
drawn.
